Root Canals Pennington NJ

If you have an infected tooth, cracked tooth or tooth pain, you may require a root canal procedure. We are fortunate to have Endodontist Dr. Larisa Strelkov in our Pennington dental office for advanced endodontic treatment and root canal therapy.

What is an endodontist?
Endodontics is one of nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. An Endodontist must complete an additional two years of special training beyond general dentistry education. While an endodontist focuses mainly on root canals, other treatment may include endodontic surgery to repair of cracked teeth, blocked canals and other complications.

Expert Root Canal Treatment

What is a root canal?
Technically, the root canal is the area inside of the tooth that contains the tooth pulp including nerves and other sensitive tissue. More generally, a root canal is used to refer to a root canal procedure where the tooth is treated for disease or decay.

Root Canal Symptoms

While you may not experience any root canal symptoms, many people often experience the following symptoms which can indicate the need for a root canal procedure:

  • Severe toothache or tooth pain, particularly when chewing or biting
  • Prolonged tooth sensitivity, especially to hot or cold foods and drinks
  • Discoloration of the tooth (darkening)
  • Soreness or tenderness to the gums surrounding the affected tooth

About the Root Canal Procedure

We specialize in root canal procedures. Endodontist Dr. Larisa Strelkov strives to deliver treatment that is gentle yet effective. Our goal is to remove infected tissue from the inside of the tooth and then fill the tooth to prevent further infection.

The endodontist will drill a small hole into the tooth, allowing access to the tooth pulp. The infected tissue and damaged nerve will be removed and the root canal will be thoroughly cleaned and polished. If there is infection, antibiotics may be prescribed and the tooth will be temporarily sealed until the infection has healed.

Once the infection is clear and the root canal is free of debris, it will be filled with a bio-compatible rubber compound called gutta percha. The tooth will then be covered either by a dental filling or dental crown to add strength and protect it from future damage.

Root Canal FAQs

Is a root canal painful?
Many patients are worried about the pain and recovery associated with a root canal procedure. A root canal procedure feels similar to having a dental filling placed. You will experience immediate relief from toothache and pain caused by the infection.

What if I don’t have the root canal treatment?
The alternative to a root canal is a tooth extraction. In most cases, the dentist will recommend saving the natural tooth. A root canal is a simple procedure that will provide better long term benefits than a tooth extraction.

How much does a root canal cost?
The cost of root canal procedures depends on your specific circumstances. We accept most dental insurance and can submit claims on your behalf. We also offer flexible payment options to help you cover the root canal cost.

  • You have been such a great support in the care for our mother over these years. I wanted to keep her pain free and you helped us with that. The last miraculous feat was the saving of that front tooth that broke. It made me smile because she hated that her teeth were discolored. She would have LOVED that shiny white tooth!! Thank you for that and, for contributing to alzheimer's research in her name.

  • I always have an outstanding visit and just recently referred two more people who raved about the experience they had! The proper time and attention to detail is always taken on every appointment.

  • I didn’t go to the dentist for a while because I had bad experiences. Then a friend referred me to the Spa Dentistry office. I usually see Dr. Silk. I have a lot of confidence in him and am very comfortable with everyone in the office now. The office is beautiful and comfortable. Everyone is friendly and professional and always makes you feel comfortable. I had two bridges done that have worked out great! I highly recommend the dental group to anyone because they are very personable and always make me feel comfortable.

  • Just a little note of thanks for taking the time to deal with my big baby! He is terrified of the dentist and you made it a bit less scary for him. The tender pampering you and your staff offer goes a long way! Thanks a million.

  • I have been a patient of Dr. Vagnozzi Bucci Spa Dental Practice since April 2002 and I’m extremely happy. I have dental insurance that I cannot use at the office however, I still choose to go there. The whole staff is superior in their technical abilities, attitude and professionalism. Every procedure I have had done there has exceeded my expectations. Painless dentistry at its finest. I can not use enough adjectives to describe and praise these doctors and professional staff. It’s not the dentistry you remember from your childhood; this is the dental practice of the future.

  • I just wanted to thank all of you for taking such good care of my aunt while she and my uncle were in the states from Australia. They were thrilled with her new teeth and told us you were amazing! I know medical/dental care is no where near as good in the U.K. or Australia as it is here, so I am glad if she had to have treatment, it was done by you. Thanks you again; I owe you one, but hope you don’t need any physical therapy anytime soon...
