Dr. David Heering, a highly trained and experienced periodontist, will use existing gum tissue to create a healthier and more aesthetically appealing gum line. Gum recession can have several causes, from genetics to disease and trauma. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to increased tooth sensitivity, loose teeth, and even tooth loss. If periodontal disease is present, we will work with you to restore gum health as a part of your overall treatment plan. This can include a deep cleaning of your gum tissue to remove all bacteria and promote gum growth. Dr. Donna Vagnozzi-Bucci and the dental team will ensure that you get a lasting result from your gum lift.

Gum Lift: What to Expect

The gum contouring process is straightforward. First, we start with applying a local anesthetic to the area. This will ensure your comfort during the procedure. It will numb the area for a pain-free procedure. Once numb, Dr. Heering will make a tiny hole in the gum tissue through which a special needle-like instrument can be gently placed. He will massage the gum tissue and re-contour the gum line. Next, collagen strips are placed within the treated tissue to stabilize it and support the body’s healing process. This procedure has a 95% success rate. Patients report that after this procedure, they feel revitalized and comfortable with their new look.

Is a gum lift permanent?

Yes, gum lifts are permanent. You may be asking yourself , “Does a gummy smile come back after a gum lift?” Your gums will not recede after a gum lift because the new tissue will be healthy. Once a gun lift has been done, you will typically never need another one again.

Is a gum lift painful?

No. The incision hole heals quickly, often within a day. Patients experience minimal discomfort, swelling or side effects as a result of the treatment. We will use a local anesthetic to numb the area so that you do not feel pain during the treatment.
