Your smile needs certain things to perform at an optimum level such as brushing, flossing, routine check-ups. Most of us already know this; however, what most of us do not know is that our diet can also have a serious impact on the health of our teeth and gums.
We understand that changing your diet can be a complete lifestyle change and that you may not be in a place in your life where you have the time to make a complete lifestyle change. This is why we have compiled a list of items that you can easily add to your diet without making any dramatic changes to your diet. These items are easily found in your local grocery store, and will also give your overall health a much-needed boost.
- Vitamin C: Vitamin C is great for your body’s immune system and healing power. Not only can it help your gums heal more quickly after flossing or accidentally brushing your gums, but it may even prevent you from getting sick. Pick up a Kiwi or Oranges next time you go down the produce aisle at the grocery store as these items are loaded with Vitamin C.
- Tea: Black Tea and Green Tea have properties in them that have been proven to slow the growth of bacteria in your mouth. The same bacteria that causes Gingivitis, which is the beginning stages of gum disease. Tea bags are very inexpensive, so next time you are in the grocery store to pick up some coffee, grab some tea bags instead.
- Green vegetables: They may not be your favorite, but green leafy vegetables are the absolute best for your body and smile. They are loaded with Vitamin A, B, and B12. Kale and Spinach are excellent and delicious options to add to your diet, and they can be made with other healthy options such as lean chicken. Do a quick search on Pinterest for some Spinach or Kale recipes, and you will be surprised of how delicious some of the meals can be, not to mention promoting your smile and body at the same time.
